Background

This Futures Lab is a space for us to reimagine and shape the future of grassroots citizen movement and action with a focus on Global South and historically marginalized communities. The current civic space is shrinking with the curtailing of human rights of frontline communities across the world.  In this Lab we will be showcasing examples of citizen action and campaigns that challenge the status quo and that can be scaled in the future.

Objectives

Share urgency to address shrinking civic space and inspiration to forefront vulnerable communities and citizen movements by showcasing examples of citizen action and campaigns that work today and that can be scaled in the future.

Key Outcomes

  • An enhancement of grassroot citizen action is needed for sustainable and effective climate action. Especially young people need to be supported.
  • Indigenous knowledge and practices can be used for climate friendly mitigation and adaption.
  • Resources and support, as well as political will from world leaders – especially dedication to action from the global north- are desperately needed. Collective action will be solution to the climate crisis.
